How to Make Gandum Ka Daliya:
Ingredients:
- 1 cup cracked wheat (gandum ka daliya)
- 4 cups water or milk (or a combination of both)
- 1-2 tablespoons ghee or butter (optional)
- 1 tablespoon honey, jaggery, or sugar (optional, for sweetness)
- 1/2 teaspoon cardamom powder (optional)
- Chopped nuts (almonds, cashews, pistachios) and dry fruits (raisins, dates) for garnish
- A pinch of salt (optional, for savory version)
Method:
- Roast the Daliya: In a pan, dry roast the cracked wheat (gandum ka daliya) on medium heat for 3-4 minutes until it turns light golden and emits a nutty aroma. This step adds flavor to the porridge.
- Cook the Daliya: In a separate pan, add 4 cups of water or milk (or a combination of both) and bring it to a boil. Once it boils, add the roasted daliya to the pan and reduce the heat to low. Let it simmer for 15-20 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the wheat softens and the mixture thickens to your desired consistency.
- Flavor the Daliya: Once the daliya is cooked, add cardamom powder and a pinch of salt (if making a savory version). Stir well.
- Sweeten the Daliya: Add honey, jaggery, or sugar to the porridge, depending on your sweetness preference. Mix until fully dissolved.
- Add Ghee or Butter: You can add ghee or butter for extra richness and flavor. This is optional but adds a lovely texture and taste.
- Garnish and Serve: Pour the gandum ka daliya into bowls and garnish with chopped nuts, dry fruits, or a sprinkle of cinnamon for added flavor.
